2nd round of the League Cup and although we were without some of a key squad members, our performance in last weeks County Cup match meant confidence was still high in the squad.
We knew today was going to be difficult. We are currently without 9 squad members but still had a capable starting 11 against a decent team we knew would be fit and hungry.
It was fantastic to at last see Bex Stroud in a Netherton shirt, a debut we had been waiting for a long time to see.
It was all to go tragically wrong on 15 minutes as Bex crumpled into a heap and straight away we feared the worst. Bex has previously suffered a serious knee injury and first impressions on this knee injury are not good and we await news on its severity.
Cambridge were playing with a high midfield and with their pace were able to break through our midfield on several occasions. There attacking play finally paid dividends on 30 minutes when we were unable to clear the ball in our area quickly enough and their player calmly played the ball through Katie's legs for the opening goal.
In truth, this was deserved as we were really not in the game and it was to remain that way for most of the game apart from the odd breakaway.
Their second goal was to come on 70 minutes, the ball curled from the edge of the box into the bottom corner.
Yet more misery for us was to come along on 80 minutes as Megan P sustained what looks like a serious ankle injury.
We weren't at the races today and we won't make excuses for it, Cambridge deserved the win.
Home again next week in league action against Newmarket Town. We have enough talent in this squad to turn this around and get back to winning ways again.
