After last weeks match with Newmarket being cancelled, we needed to get back to winning ways after the League Cup disappointment against Cambridge City.
With a squad of only 13 available for this match, bad news was to arrive prior to kick off as two players pulled out late leaving us with a bare 11 and subsequently no substitutes.
The first ten minutes were fairly even with both sides prodding away looking for openings. Bar Hill were slowly gaining dominance in central midfield which meant most of our attacks were to break down with players high up the pitch and then being unable to recover for defensive duties. This eventually paid dividends for Bar Hill on 12 minutes when they had possession outside our box and when not closed down their player was able to coolly place the ball past Katie out of her reach and into the corner of the net.
Chances were few and far between and when we did get into the opposition box, shots were either weak or played straight to the keeper who we just wasn't working hard enough.
On 35 minutes Bar Hill got their second when a corner into the middle was won by them, a snap shot was saved by Katie onto the bar but it rebounded back into play where a Bar Hill player was sharp enough to get to the ball first and force it over the line.
Half Time 0-2
The only change that could be made due to a lack of players was a tactical one, with Megan S moving into a central midfield role to add energy centrally and Alice dropped back to her more favored left wing role. This left Yasmin isolated up front and to be fair to Bar Hill, they closed the forward line down well the whole game.
The change was beginning to allow us more possession and on 56 minutes, a long throw from the left by Alice bounced through several players to Georgina in the box, who calmly controlled the ball and poked the ball home for her first senior goal.
We were getting much more of the ball now and several chances came our way, the best of them a whipped in free kick from Rachel that found Shannon free in the box, but she was only able to knock it wide on the volley.
Although we continued to huff and puff, we were unable to make any more pressure pay and Bar Hill launched a couple of late counter attacks themselves.
Well done to Bar Hill, they took their chances well and battled hard the whole 90 minutes.
Full Time 1-2
Player of the match to Georgina, who looked dangerous the whole game.
