We were taking part in a bit of history today as this was to be Newmarket Town's last match at Dullingham Polo Field. Thanks heavens for that, rarely do we come across such a poor pitch which of course both teams had to put up with but made attractive football almost impossible.
We started poorly and the first ten minutes were rather panicky and we just didn't settle well.
The first half came and went really with chances for both sides. We mainly had chances from outside the area which were off target apart from a great Alice header from a cross which the keeper was able to grab hold of on her line. Newmarket had their own chances are theirs were much nearer to goal and we rode our luck a bit with them hitting the bar and post with Katie getting fingertips on to divert it onto the bar.
Half Time 0-0
The second half was pretty much the same although we steadily imposed ourselves on the game and crafted out some chances that couldn't be converted. In the 57th minutes, we made our first changes and brought Rachel on up front with Stacey F reverting to her more familiar wing role and Georgina into the middle of the park. Dita also came on for Stacey B at left back.
73 minutes saw the introduction of Savannah for Alice and gave her a chance to get more senior minutes under her belt.
The last ten minutes saw us really moving up a gear and we were attacking more and more. It was the 88th minute when we were to seal the win and the three points. The Newmarket defence cleared another of our attacks out to Megan on the edge of the box. She controlled the ball and then placed a delightful chip over the Newmarket keeper and into the net.
Full Time 1-0
A really well ground out win today in difficult conditions with the pitch and a strong wind. it also extended our unbeaten run to 5 matches and with one game to go against the probably league champions it would be great to end the season with a 6 game unbeaten run.
Player of the match went to Tash who as usual was a magnificent leader and barely put a foot wrong in central defence.
