Team Update - 28 Feb 2016

February 28, 2016 - 1:22 PM

A couple of weeks off now for the ladies and time for a team update.

The last month has seen us pick up a bit of form, with 3 wins and one defeat since 31 Jan, scoring 9 and conceding just one.

Not only have the results picked up, we have also started playing a more consistent passing game but the real issue all season has been our goal conversion rate. We have tried many different combinations up front trying to keep 2 strikers but have occasionally played with one up front to try and increase the chances created from midfield.

That is not to say any blame is apportioned to our strikers, they have tried hard all season, they just haven't had the breaks. We even missed two penalties in one match by players you would have put money on to score! The partnership of Yasmin Green and Sasha Haw looks to have started to gel with both getting on the score sheet at Huntingdon last week.

Our main focus now is to finish the season strongly and if we play our passing game with the confidence that is building in the remaining 5 games there is no reason why we can't.

We are obviously looking ahead to next season already and another crop of excellent junior players become available for the Ladies team from this years U18 squad.

We have already blooded 2 junior players this season and they are now both starting regulars; Katie Cooper between the sticks and Georgina Parrett in central midfield. Savannah Evans may also feature before the end of the season but has been unlucky with injury recently.

There are a number of other U18 players who have already committed to Ladies football which is great news and just increases the depth and talent within the Ladies squads.

I say squads because it is our intention to run two Ladies teams next season. The first team will again ply their trade in the Cambs S-Tech Premiership with a new reserve team in the Northants league. All players will be signed to both squads to allow movement between the teams as we require. This means that if you are a reserve team player, a good run of form and performances could see a move to the first team. Beware, it works the other way too!

We will also look to bring in more players from outside the club over the summer to further strengthen the squads and we are seeing an increase in enquiries, which has now led to us considering running a trials/open day over the summer, no plans finalised yet though but watch this space.

There is no doubt that next season our sole focus will be a push for promotion from our first team and our reserve team to learn and grow in their first season.

We have had 2 seasons now in the Premiership and know what we need to do and the management firmly believe that with the right squad in place, playing the football the right way we can achieve this goal next season.
