The management came into this game expecting a young, fit opposition who had come out of an exceptional season at the U18 level last year.
With only 13 players available this week due to injury and holidays, we set up with a 4-4-2 formation again.
Netherton took the initiative early in the game and were really causing Cambridge issues all over the pitch. Our physicality was clearly unsettling their team. Any forays forward were generally easily dealt with by our solid back four who all had excellent games.
The breakthrough wasn't to come until the 23rd minute where Tia crossed for Stacey who clinically finished from 10 yards out.
On 28 minutes, Megan fed an excellent ball through to Stacey who ran onto it and fired the ball high and wide to the keepers right to make it 2-0, an excellent goal and excellent finish.
Netherton continued to press but were unable to make further inroads before half time.
The second half continued as the first had ended, Netherton having large periods of possession but unable to add to the goals tally.
Although we picked up several injuries/illnesses in the second half, we were able to continue to field 11 players and in the 90th minute, Jazzie chased down a bobbling ball to the away keeper and was able to get the ball off her, leaving her clean through on goal and she finished well.
This was a very pleasing victory in only our second outing of the season. With several senior players missing, it showed what a strong squad we have now assembled, with fine performance all over the pitch.
A special mention to Klinta, who was strong and firm throughout the game, far exceeding the management's expectations of her.Ā
